18 Books to Spark Action and Get You Together

Hi Reader,

I recently shared a few of my favorite memoirs that I loved listening to. But this time? I’m back with a different kind of list—18 books that’ll get you together.

You know those books that make you pause mid-sentence, sit up a little straighter, and say, “Whew, I needed to hear that”? The ones that light a fire under you and make you want to show up differently—not tomorrow, but right now?

That’s what this list is about.

Because here’s the truth: sometimes we need the inspiration of a story to help us reflect, but other times? We need a straight-up kick in the face—the kind that stops the pity party and reminds you what you’re capable of.

These types of books are necessary.

We all have moments when we get stuck—whether it’s in our careers, relationships, or just the everyday routines that leave us feeling stagnant. Books like these have a way of shaking things up. They pour into you in ways you didn’t even realize you needed.

For me, listening to these books on Audible has poured into me in ways I didn’t even know I needed. They all have brought me clarity. They sparked action. And they inspired me to move—toward my goals, my vision, and the life I know I’m destined for.

So, if you’ve been waiting for a fresh perspective, a little tough love, or just a reminder to get it together—this is your sign.

Here is a running list of the books that got me together:

  • Activate Your Greatness - Alex Toussaint
  • Never Finished - David Goggins
  • Disruptive Thinking - T.D. Jakes
  • Believe It - Jamie Kern Lima
  • A Renaissance of Our Own - Rachel E. Cargle
  • Year of Yes - Shonda Rhimes
  • WOLFPACK - Abby Wambach
  • Relentless - Tim Grover
  • Winning - Tim Grover
  • Professional Troublemaker - Luvvie Ajayi Jones
  • The Big Leap - Gay Hendricks
  • Don't Settle for Safe - Sarah Jakes Roberts
  • Power Moves - Sarah Jakes Roberts
  • Normal Gets You Nowhere - Kelly Cutrone
  • Outliers - Malcolm Gladwell
  • Revolution from within Gloria Steinem
  • Reposition Yourself - T.D. Jakes
  • Broken Open - Elizabeth Lesser

With us being in a new year, these books will definitely help you get to the next level you’re anticipating for this year. I highly recommend adding a few to your reading list.

Reader, Let me guess: you've sat through at least one virtual presentation where the speaker was framed like they were in witness protection. Camera pointing up their nose. Terrible lighting. Background that looked like a crime scene. You could barely see their face, let alone connect with what they were saying. And here's what kills me: that speaker probably had brilliant content. They might have spent hours preparing. But because they treated the technical setup as an afterthought, their...

Reader, I need to tell you something that might surprise you. When I first started developing my public speaking skills over a decade ago, I thought the benefit would be simple: I'd be less nervous when presenting. Maybe I'd sound more confident in meetings. That's it. That was the extent of my expectations. But what actually happened? The ripple effects went so far beyond what I imagined. I'm talking about: Getting pulled aside by a provost who said "you sound like a leader" when I wasn't...

Reader, Have you ever watched another speaker and thought, "I need to be more like THEM"? Maybe they were hilarious and you thought, "I'm not funny enough."Or they had this massive transformation story and you thought, "My story isn't dramatic enough."Or they were polished and perfect and you thought, "I'll never be that smooth." Here's what I've learned after 15+ years of speaking: The most powerful speakers aren't the ones trying to be everything. They're the ones who know exactly what type...
