Hi Reader, Welcome back to my special email-only series: Highly Visible, Highly Booked: Upgrade your stages, increase your leads, and grow your income. This series is specifically for coaches and consultants, and it’s the kickoff to my upcoming launch of The Visibility Shift. If you want my help increasing your speaking bookings and conversions through high-visibility speaking engagements, join the TVS waitlist here. One of my favorite things about public speaking is that a great engagement can start working for your business immediately and keep working for months afterward. You could have someone join your email list before you even leave the venue. Someone else may book a call that week. Another person could hear you speak in October and hire you in January. And six months later, someone who never became a client could send your name to the person booking speakers at their company. This is why I do not judge a speaking engagement only by what happens on the day you speak. I look at what happens over the next 30, 60, 90, and 365 days. The 30-60-90-365 speaking scorecardIn the first 30 days, I’m looking for immediate movement. Did people join your email list? Did anyone reply to your follow-up? Did you get inquiries, booked calls, direct sales, or new speaking requests? You should be able to see signs fairly quickly that the room was interested in continuing the relationship with you. That is also why I want you to give people somewhere to go after your presentation. I recommend having a resource that directly connects to the topic you just taught. Not a random freebie you created three years ago. Something that feels like the next logical step. If I just spent 45 minutes teaching you how to improve your leadership presence, the resource I offer afterward should help you continue working on leadership presence. Now we have a bridge from the stage into your business. By 60 and 90 days, I’m looking at what those leads are turning into. Who is still opening your emails? Who booked a call? Who asked about working with you? Who referred you to someone else? Did another speaking opportunity come from that room? This is especially important if you sell higher-priced consulting. I have had plenty of engagements where the business did not close immediately. Larger consulting opportunities can take longer because there may be multiple conversations, budget approvals, or other people involved in the decision. That is very different from speaking to individuals who can decide for themselves that they want to purchase coaching. So if you only look at what happened during the first week, you may decide an engagement did not work when the real opportunity is still developing. Even if nobody buys during the event, that does not mean the engagement failed. And then I want you to look one year out. This is the part I want you to get excited about. A strong speaking engagement can keep sending people into your business for an entire year. Someone can email you months later and say, “I saw you speak at ABC and have been following you ever since.” You could have people join a waitlist. You could have someone refer you into another company. One engagement could lead to another stage, which introduces you to another group of potential clients. This is why you do not necessarily need a packed calendar with 40 speaking engagements to make speaking valuable for your business. You need stages that keep producing. When you have the right room, a strong presentation, a clear next step, and a way to stay in contact with the people who raise their hands, you start creating a repeatable source of leads that works long after the event is over. And that is why tracking matters. If someone hires you next March and first discovered you at an event this September, you should know that. If a company invites you to speak because one of their employees heard you somewhere 10 months earlier, you should know that too. The goal is to understand what your speaking is producing at 30, 60, 90, and 365 days so you can keep pursuing the stages that actually create business for you. Inside The Visibility Shift, I teach coaches and consultants how to build speaking into a lead source for the business they already have, so you can see what is working now without assuming you need a brand-new stage every week to keep leads coming in. Until next time, Kimberly P.S. Looking for private coaching instead? We can work together 1:1 on your speaking goals and the business behind them. You’ll also receive access to the TVS curriculum if speaking is part of your coaching plan. Apply for private coaching. |
