The 3 types of stages you should be pitching (7 of 12)

Hi Reader,

Welcome back to my special email-only series: Highly Visible, Highly Booked: Upgrade your stages, increase your leads, and grow your income.

This series is specifically for coaches and consultants, and it’s the kickoff to my upcoming launch of The Visibility Shift. If you want my help increasing your speaking bookings and conversions through high-visibility speaking engagements, join the TVS waitlist here.

When people tell me they want to speak more, they usually start searching for conferences.

That is one place to look. It should not be the only place.

I want coaches and consultants building their speaking lists across three categories: stages that can pay you, stages that put you in front of buyers, and stages that build your authority.

The first category is the most obvious: stages that can pay you.

These are organizations that may have a budget to bring you in. Private companies are a great example. Lunch and learns, workshops, leadership programs, annual events, and internal conferences can all create paid opportunities. Larger conferences and summits may also have speaker budgets, particularly for keynote speakers.

The second category is where I think coaches and consultants should pay very close attention: stages filled with potential buyers.

Private communities can be excellent for this. The speaking fee may be $0, but if the people in the room already invest in services like yours, the opportunity can still make excellent business sense. Professional organizations can work similarly when their membership closely matches the industry or buyer you want to reach.

Then there are authority-building stages.

Podcast guest appearances and media opportunities may not pay you, but they can put your ideas in front of a larger or very specific audience. You can also create your own stage through a webinar, workshop, summit, or small event, which gives you control over the topic and the people you invite into the room.

A well-rounded speaking plan should have some combination of all three.

You might have a corporate workshop that pays you $7,500, a private community presentation that pays nothing but produces two consulting leads, and a podcast interview that helps more people in your niche begin associating your name with your topic.

Those opportunities are doing different jobs. That is exactly what you want.

But the mix should also change based on where you are in your speaking business.

If you are still trying to get booked consistently, your plan may include more relationship-based opportunities, cold pitching, and stages that help you prove your topic. If you already have a track record, we may be looking for bigger rooms, stronger buyer alignment, higher fees, and opportunities that position you as someone people should already know.

And even if you are early in your speaking business, you do not need a perfectly balanced plan on day one. Your mix should change as your experience and goals change.

That is why I created my $500K Speak First Roadmap inside The Visibility Shift.

The roadmap helps you identify where you are now, what kinds of stages should be getting most of your attention, and what needs to change as your speaking business grows.

And this is where I help you get specific.

Inside TVS, we look at the business you already have, the offers you want speaking to support, the people you need to get in front of, and the speaking experience you already have. From there, I help you build a speaker plan that makes sense for your current level instead of copying what someone who has been speaking for 15 years is doing.

Because your speaking list should not be 100 versions of the same conference.

You need a mix of opportunities that can pay you now, put you in front of future clients, and keep building your name in the spaces where you want to be known.

Inside The Visibility Shift, I help you build that plan so you can know what deserves your attention now instead of trying to copy somebody else’s speaking business.
