The pitch checklist you need before you try to get booked (9 of 12)

Hi Reader,

Welcome back to my special email-only series: Highly Visible, Highly Booked: Upgrade your stages, increase your leads, and grow your income.

This series is specifically for coaches and consultants, and it’s the kickoff to my upcoming launch of The Visibility Shift. If you want my help increasing your speaking bookings and conversions through high-visibility speaking engagements, join the TVS waitlist here.

I do not want you spending six months building a speaker business before you send your first pitch.

  • You do not need a perfect website.
  • You do not need a professional reel.
  • You do not need 10 testimonials from Fortune 500 companies.

But you do need enough information for someone to understand what you are asking them to book.

I use what I call the PITCH Check:

P — Presentation: Do you have a clear topic, description, and takeaways?
I — Internet presence: Does your LinkedIn profile support the expertise you are pitching?
T — Trust signals: Can someone quickly see your relevant experience and any proof you already have?
C — Contracts + payment: Are you ready to send a contract and invoice when someone says yes?
H — Hit send: Are you actually pitching, or are you still preparing?

At minimum, I want you to have a clear presentation topic, a strong description, and specific takeaways.

Those three pieces should tell the buyer what the session is about, who it is for, and what the audience will leave with.

I also want your LinkedIn profile cleaned up.

If someone receives a pitch from you and has never heard your name before, there is a very good chance they are going to look you up. Your profile should support the expertise you just claimed in the email. LinkedIn has natural search engine optimizations so it’s very likely to come up first in Google when someone looks you up. (Even before your personal website, if you have one!)

Then, if you are doing cold outreach, I recommend creating a booking guide.

That gives the buyer one place to see your topic, bio, takeaways, relevant experience, and any proof you already have. You do not need to stuff it with information. Its job is to help someone make a decision.

Once you start getting booked, have the basic business pieces ready too.

You should know how you will send a contract and how you will invoice if the engagement is paid. Those systems do not have to be fancy. The goal is simply to avoid scrambling after someone says yes.

And then you pitch. This part matters because I see too many people preparing indefinitely.

They keep tweaking their speaker page. They keep rewriting the bio. They keep telling themselves they will pitch once everything feels perfect.

Even if your website is not finished or you do not have every speaker asset you eventually want, you can still get pitch-ready and start testing your positioning.

But one of the strongest early signs that your speaker positioning is working is getting a yes from someone who has never met you.

If a cold lead reads your pitch, understands the topic, and decides they want you in front of their audience, you have learned something important about the market.

You cannot get that information while your pitch is sitting in drafts.

Inside The Visibility Shift, I help clients build these pieces and start using them so you can get out of preparation mode and start learning from real pitches.
